As An Encourager
Smiling is as contagious as yawning. So is encouraging someone. The Bible teaches us to “encourage one another and build one another up” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 and not tear each other down. It’s been said that it will take up to ten positive words to build someone up who’s been discouraged by one bad word.
As A Giver
Have you given someone something today? It doesn’t have to be money or even things—it can be yourself. You could hold the door open for someone or pick up something they dropped. You could smile at someone or give them a hug. The interesting thing is that the more you give away, the more you actually receive in blessings. The Bible teaches us to “remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive” Acts 20:31.
Visit Someone Today
It is great when an old friend stops by to see us. But it also feel good to talk on the phone, get a ‘thinking of you’ card, or even a text or email. Whatever you do, try to go out of your way to visit or talk to someone you normally don’t talk to or see. Make it a special, no occasion thing. The Bible says for us to “do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant that yourselves” Philippians 2:3.
Thank Someone Today
We are warned in the Bible about sins of omission. That is the failure to give thanks to God and to others. Paul said in the Bible “I thank my God in all my remembrance of you” Philippians 1:3. It’s good to borrow that line of Scripture and tell people we thank them—for being our spouse, son or daughter, friend, etc. Even a thank you note makes a great and lasting impression. It costs very little but it reaps great benefits.
Noah got drunk, Jonah ran from God, Moses couldn’t speak eloquently, Peter denied Christ three times, David was an adulterer, Rahab was a prostitute, and Lazarus was dead. Yet God used everyone of these people for his glory. If God could use them, then certainly God can use us today. Look around and see the opportunities God has laid in your life.
