We read in our Bibles that as far as our Christianity goes, doing is as important as knowing. That is, we must apply the things that we learn from the Bible to our everyday lives. As the year begins we often make a strategy of daily Bible reading or perhaps even memorization. But it is also important that we are intentional in our application of God’s word as well.
In the days before the American Revolution, tradition states that Benjamin Franklin used to keep a list of the Christian graces on the mirror where he would wash up every morning. Each day he would focus on this list and reflect on how he was applying these traits in his life. He focused on one word each week and when he had finished the list he would go to the top and begin again.
Here is a list of the Christian graces found in 2 Peter 1.
Faith Virtue Knowledge
Self-Control Perseverance Godliness
Brotherly Kindness Love
This method was valuable in helping him to apply good moral virtue to his everyday outlook and may work well for us as well. Each day make a focus to apply some aspect of your Christianity in a practical way.
