Many people think they want to be leaders but they refuse to put forth the effort necessary to become leaders. Let’s look at some ways Jesus says we can be leaders today in our society and in the church.
1) Leaders are aware of the details. We tend to want to focus on the big picture or to not take things seriously until we feel they are important. But Jesus reminds us that the simple things in life are the training ground of good leadership. Jesus said, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much” Luke 16:10. The best leaders are those who focus on the small things.
2) Leaders are dedicated to seeing the task through. Many people start something big but then become distracted or bored. A good leader will stay with what is important in spite of difficulty. Christian leaders are rewarded for their consistency. Jesus said, “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown” Revelation 2:10.
3) Leaders know the importance of their heart. They resist the temptation to become arrogant and petty. The way to true greatness is through service to others. That’s why Jesus is the greatest example of leadership. We must always examine our hearts to ensure that we are open to God’s leading. Jesus said, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up” James 4:10.
Our society, our families and our churches must raise up powerful leaders for this generation and the next. Let’s follow these leadership principles so we can fulfill God’s plan for our life.
