One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. For hours the farmer tried to figure out a way to free his donkey while the animal helplessly cried out. Finally, since the donkey was old, and the well was dry anyway; the farmer decided to it was not worth it to try to save his poor animal. Inviting his neighbors over, they all grabbed some shovels and began to fill the well with dirt.
Seeing his fate, the donkey cried out horribly. Then to everyone’s amazement he became silent. After filling the well with quite a bit of dirt, the farmer finally gained the courage to look down the well and was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel load of dirt that hit his back, the donkey would shake it off and then take a step up on the dirt below his feet. Pretty soon, to everyone’s amazement, the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well to freedom and happily trotted off.
Here’s the moral of the story: Life will shovel dirt on you-all kinds of dirt. It may be circumstances, it may be mistreatment of others, or it maybe physical ailments. The trick to finding purpose in your life is to shake off the dirt and take a step up. Each of your problems is a stepping stone. You can escape the deepest of wells when you refuse to ever give up. Shake it off and take a step up.
